Let’s Illustrating the Novel!
Well, now that the translation has passed the halfway point, I want to introduce a new portion to the blog. Hopefully community involvement can carry this beast along as I finish up the rest of the book and head into the long, grueling process of editing the dang thing into oblivion.
I want to include artwork into this project–there’s no artwork included in the Japanese novel, but as long as we’re being flooded with story-lines and scenes that don’t show up in the game, let’s enjoy it and assign some visualization to the madness.
Seeing as distribution methods are not yet decided, I can’t make any promises regarding the possibility of including illustrations in a print version of the book, should there ever actually be one. But it’s something I’m quite interested in pursuing if it’s something we can pull off. If it does turn out to be possible, there are going to be some strict standards as to what will be considered for the novel. I’m not looking for any old fanart; only complete, fully illustrated drawings will be accepted. And by that I mean completed backgrounds that set the scene (not just a colored pattern, etc.) and a nice perspective that isn’t some plain head-on shot like some kind of side-scroller game. The picture should also depict scenes from the book as clearly as possible–after all, this artwork is to depict the novel, not the game. This may be an Earthbound novel, but I think we can all tell by now that this is not Earthbound the game, if you know what I mean.
Here are some examples of what kind of pictures will be considered:
I’ll make a post soon with an excerpt to open up the first round of submissions for illustration, and continue through with each chapter. There will probably be open spots for one or two pictures per chapter.
Having that said, aside from artwork that would be possibly considered to connect with the novel, GIVE US FANART! I want pretty pictures! This would be a lot easier if the novel were, you know, like, released… But hopefully the excerpts so far have been enough to give a good idea of some of the wackiness.
There are two modes of submission: via Starmen.net forum or deviantART.
If you have an account on the forums, please post your image on the thread.
If you prefer deviantART, my name on there is chui so send me a link to your uploaded picture.
One, two, three… break!

Oh my god. I’ve been so insanely busy lately, but this looks too awesome to not attempt a bit. Gah!
Aww, Chewy, you just had to open this up, didn’t you? My heart is pounding. I was in the middle of something else, but now I’ve GOT to drop everything and go for this!
It’s a long process, kenisu, so don’t feel obligated to drop the other stuff you’re working on, too. Pace yourself, boy, pace yourself!
Oh my gosh, these are AMAZING! :O
